Margate Art Museum
Opened in 1994 and operating under Hibiscus Coast Municipality, the Margate Art Museum is situated on the south coast in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The museum caters for a large region that is mostly rural and incorporates several popular coastal towns.
The Margate Art Museum consists of the main gallery, conservation room, office, and an adjoining educational venue/exhibition space that is connected to the Margate Library.
Accessibility to the museum has been prioritized by providing a diverse calendar of educational exhibitions, developing outreach programmes and expanding the art collection.
The museum is overseen by the Margate Art Museum Board of Trustees, which has custody over the art collection.

The museum's art collection is mostly focused on work produced in KwaZulu-Natal and comprises a variety of modes, techniques and media that attempts to reflect the cultural and artistic diversity of our region.

Throughout the year the Margate Art Museum showcases the museum's art collection as well as a variety of temporary exhibitions. This also incorporates the Schools Corner which displays theme based work produced by learners attending schools in the area.
Proposals from artists to host exhibitions are welcomed.
Education & Outreach

The Margate Art Museum engages the community through a number of education and outreach programmes. Talks, guided tours and worksheets are available for visiting groups and schools.
Since 2002 the museum initiated its educators' workshop programme aimed at developing teachers' skills in basic art practice and theory. This programme has been well received and continues to grow.
A number of local groups use the museum's facilities on a regular basis which include the Hibiscus Coast Camera Club and Art by the Sea.
